Shared note | Per phone conversation3/10/96 with Virginia Jenkins Fedorko. Ralph, herfather, came to Cleveland when Kate (Katheryn Stack Carter Jenkins) movedwhen Ralph was 16 years old. Kate moved to Cleveland because she had abrother here--Clarence Ruth (this is really Vi's brother). Kate owned a?grocery store for awhile. Ralph went to Collinwood High School, onlycompleting up to the 10th or 11th grade. Per record from Collinwood HighSchool: entered Feb. 17, 1919 from Sowinski School then withdrew Sept. 8,1919 and went to East Junior High. Per phone conversation with Earl Carter, 3/22/96. Ralph lived and workedat Wiltar Storage and Battery. He met his wife Vi at Danceland on 98thand Euclid, in Cleveland, Ohio. Vi also went to work at Wiltar Storageand Battery. Ralph worked there for 25 years until it closed in 1960,then worked at truck docks, loading and unloading semi trucks. Ralph loved to dance and was a good dancer, even winning best dancer inthe city at a Euclid Beach Ballroom contest. He and Vi enjoyed dancing atEuclid Beach, Bedford Ballroom and others. When ballroom dancing went outof vogue, Danceland was turned into a skating rink where Virginia, thedaughter, skated. When Jean and Joan Srpan were teenagers, they would drop off Dorothy andEd at Vi's and Ralph's house to play cards, penny ante poker, withEvelyn, Net and sometime Agnes Gillespie (Johnson). |
