Fostoria had railroad tracks going thru the town. Vi's brother, Clarance Ruth, already lived in Cleveland. His wife andchild became ill and he asked Vi to help him care for the family. Shedid, then decided that she liked Cleveland and stayed. She worked for a company as a seamstress for men's suits until WWIIstarted and her company and most others, converted to making serviceman'suniforms. Because so many of the men were leaving for the war, manycompanies needed women to replace them. Vi went to work for a battery andstorage company, where she met her future husband. She worked there untilthe plant closed in 1960. Vi knew how to dance. She and her husband, Ralph, would go all overCleveland dancing at the ballrooms and dance floors, including EuclidBeach Ballroom. |
