Anything within [] is my comments Peter Cifranic - 1985 Peter Cifranic was the founder in the 1930s of Sheffield Lake volunteer fire department and was fire chief from 1945 to 1970 when the job became full time and salaried. He continued as a firefighter until he retired in 1975. One of his accomplishments as chief was to establish a rescue squad. On Wednesday that squad was called to Mr. Cifranic's Sheffield Lake home. He had suffered cardiac arrest. Members of the squad were able to revive him briefly, but he died at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, Ohio. He was 80. Mr. Cifranic was a plumber and pipefitter by trade and worked for 50 years out of Plumbers Union Local 55. He was born in Lakewood and graduated from Benedictine High School. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Mr. Cifranic is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan; son, Richard of Nantucket, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister and two brothers.
