Shared note

Frank was born in Newport, County Mayo, Ireland. He came over to America in 1882. He worked as an accountant and bookkeeper and at first made three dollars per week but later he got a raise to five dollars and was considered by some rich. He worked ten hours a day six days a week. On Sunday he was a photographer and made buttons for extra money. He would make about five dollars and that doubled his weekly salary. His brothers who came over on the boat with him worked on the docks. This work was only available in the summer and payed three dollars per week. They could be called at any hour of the night or day to come unload a boat. It was the job of children to call the dock workers to work. They had no work in the winter except cutting ice. Ath the beginning of winter they would buy a barrel of flour and a few sides of meat to feed their families throught the winter.
