Heinrich and Mary were lifelong residents of Dover, OH. At least two of their children (Katie and Fred) continued to reside on the family home on Second Street in Dover, OH until their demise. Henry's obituary in the Iron Valley Reporter stated the following: "Henry Specht, died at age 62 of lung fever. He was a shoemaker. Born in Germany, as was his wife, Mary. They were members of the German Luthern Church. He belonged to the German Workingmen's Society. 120 members of the society attended the funeral in regalia and the Dover Fire Department was largely represented." NOTE: Dover at that ime, owing to the heavy German immigration, had an extensive beneficial organizationwhich became known as the German Workingmen's Society and promoted the Mennen choir and other musical and civic organizations and became a power in local politics. |
